Disney's Animal KingdomThe lowest-priced Disney day and the one that rewards an early start most. DinoLand closed in February 2026, so plan a morning of Pandora, the safari and Everest, then leave.Universal Studios FloridaDiagon Alley and Gringotts are still the reason to go. Rip Ride Rockit and Fast & Furious are gone, the new coaster is due in 2027, and the fall 2026 thrill lineup is thin.Universal Islands of AdventureThe strongest ride lineup in Orlando, with Hogsmeade on top. In fall 2026 the water ride is closed, Lost Continent is being demolished, and Kong is back without its animatronic.Universal Epic UniverseUniversal's newest park opened May 22, 2025 with five themed worlds. The rides are the best in Orlando. The ticket, Express and early-entry rules differ from the older parks, and it pays to know them.SeaWorld OrlandoHalf the price of Universal, with Orlando's tallest coaster. Orcas still live and perform here, though breeding ended in 2016. Buy All-Day Dining with the ticket, not separately.Universal Volcano BayUniversal's water park is $81 on most fall dates and closes for the winter after October 25, 2026. The TapuTapu wristband and virtual lines ended in October 2025, so you queue like anywhere else.Aquatica OrlandoSeaWorld's water park costs less than Volcano Bay, has twin wave pools, and was selling tickets for December and January while Universal's water park is shut.Disney's Typhoon LagoonClosed since September 9, 2026, with no return date. When it reopens it is the Disney water park to pick for its giant surf pool; until then, your ticket works at Blizzard Beach.Disney's Blizzard BeachThe thrill-slide water park, and for now the only Disney one running. Worth a hot day on a long trip, especially with teenagers; on a short trip or a cool day, skip it.LEGOLAND FloridaA park built for children aged 2 to 12, in Winter Haven rather than Orlando. Buy online, check the calendar for closed weekdays, and do not bring teenagers.Discovery CoveA limited-attendance day resort with snorkeling, a dolphin swim option and unlimited food and drink. The price is high, but it includes more than any other Orlando park. It suits couples and families with children six and up.

Best time to visit OrlandoThe parks tell you when they are busy: they charge more. Pair their price calendars with NOAA's climate normals and the answer is early November or mid-January.How many days in OrlandoCount the parks you want, give each its own day, then add a rest day for every three park days. Extra ticket days are cheap; extra hotel nights are not.Getting to OrlandoFly into MCO unless a fare to Sanford saves real money. Then it is a $38 to $68 taxi, a $16 shared shuttle to Disney hotels or a rental car. Brightline reaches Miami in about 3 hours 30 minutes.Getting around OrlandoOrlando is built for cars, and the tolls are cashless. Disney and Universal move their own hotel guests for free; the I-Ride Trolley covers International Drive; SunRail is for commuters.Disney Lightning Lane explainedMulti Pass is the $19 to $35 add-on most people buy. Single Pass sells one headline ride. Premier Pass skips every line once, for $179 to $399 a day.Universal Express Pass explainedExpress Unlimited works only at Studios and Islands. Epic Universe sells a one-ride-each Express from $199.99. Three Universal hotels include Unlimited, but not for Epic.Theme park parking feesStandard parking is $35 a day at Disney, Universal and SeaWorld. Disney hotel guests park free, Disney Springs is free, and Universal's garages are free after 6 p.m. on most nights.Orlando with kidsUnder 3 is free. At 38 inches Disney's family coasters open up; at 48 inches almost everything at both resorts does. Plan around the heat, not the ride list.
Worth it?
Is Epic Universe worth it?On a multi-day Universal ticket, Epic costs almost nothing extra and is the best park in the resort. The price you pay is in line time: plan the morning around Mine-Cart Madness and the Ministry.Is staying on Disney property worth it?The perks are real but narrower than the marketing: free parking, a 30-minute head start and an earlier Lightning Lane window. Several non-Disney hotels get two of those three.Do you need a rental car in Orlando?A car is cheap to rent and expensive to park. Whether you need one depends less on Orlando than on where you sleep and whether you are leaving the parks.Is Discovery Cove worth it?An all-inclusive snorkel-and-lounge day is not cheap, but the package math is better than it looks: the 2-park add-on costs about the same as a single SeaWorld ticket.Is the SeaWorld All-Day Dining Deal worth it?Bought with your ticket, the deal costs $40 and pays off by the second meal. Bought alone at $59.99, you need three. SeaWorld does not post its menu prices online, so do the math before you go.

ICON Park and The WheelThe I-Drive complex around the 400-foot observation wheel. Free parking and free to walk around. With the wheel closed for maintenance, the combo tickets lose their point.Lake Eola ParkDowntown Orlando's central park: a 0.9-mile loop, pedal swan boats, a fountain and a Sunday market. The live swan flock is gone as of July 2026; the boats remain.Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American ArtThe world's key Tiffany collection, including his chapel from the 1893 Chicago fair, in a quiet museum on Park Avenue. $8, or free on Friday evenings in season.Harry P. Leu GardensFifty acres of botanical garden on Lake Rowena, ten minutes from downtown. Quiet, cheap and at its best in camellia and azalea season. The historic house is closed for now.Orlando Science CenterFour floors of hands-on exhibits and a domed theater in Loch Haven Park. A strong rainy-day pick with children under 12; adults without kids can skip it.Wekiwa Springs State ParkA swimming spring at a steady 72 degrees, 17 miles north of downtown. Cheap and genuinely beautiful, but you cannot just turn up: book a day-use slot first.Old Town KissimmeeAn 18-acre retro strip of bars, shops and fair rides on US-192. Unremarkable on a Tuesday; worth an evening on Friday or Saturday when hundreds of classic cars parade the bricks.

Medieval Times OrlandoA two-hour joust with a four-course chicken dinner on West 192 in Kissimmee. Great with kids aged about 6 to 12, fine for groups, skippable for couples who care about food.Drawn to Life by Cirque du SoleilCirque du Soleil plus Disney animation, 90 minutes, no intermission, from $69 all-in. The best evening show in Orlando that does not need a park ticket. Check the dark days first.Aerophile at Disney SpringsEight minutes, 400 feet up, $29.99 plus tax. A cheap, short view over Disney property that only flies when the wind and the Florida storms allow. Go at dusk.Hot-air balloon ridesAn hour in the air at sunrise over the lakes and countryside around Disney, from about $325 a head. Worth it for a milestone, with a flexible day in reserve for weather.Tubing at Kelly Park (Rock Springs)A 25-minute float down a clear spring run near Apopka for $5 per car. The catch is capacity: 280 cars in the morning, 50 more at 1 p.m., and summer lines from before dawn.Pirates Dinner AdventureAcrobats and sword fights on a replica galleon in an indoor lagoon, with a three-course dinner. Great for pirate-mad kids. Budget for parking, drinks and the seat upgrades it pushes.

St. AugustineThe old Spanish city is the best history day in reach of Orlando, but it is further than people think. Stay a night, or leave very early and park once.Blue Spring State ParkHundreds of wild manatees shelter in this spring run from mid-November to March, an hour from Orlando for $6 a car. The rules changed in 2026: book before you drive.Crystal River manatee swimsKings Bay is where you can get in the water with wild manatees under federal rules. It means a 5 a.m. start from Orlando, a wetsuit, and strictly hands-off viewing.

Events
EPCOT International Festival of the HolidaysFive weeks of holiday storytellers, food kiosks and the Candlelight Processional, included with EPCOT admission. The one thing to plan: a guaranteed Candlelight seat, via a dining package that opens October 14.Mickey's Very Merry Christmas PartyTwenty-five nights of Christmas parade, fireworks, snow on Main Street and free cookies at Magic Kingdom. The entry price rose $20 this year and nothing major is new. Buy a November weeknight.EPCOT International Festival of the ArtsEPCOT's quietest festival and, for adults, often its best: Broadway concerts, chalk artists, a paint-by-number mural and small plated dishes. The 2027 run is 46 days, from January 15 to March 1.EPCOT International Flower & Garden FestivalThree months of character topiaries, gardens, outdoor food kiosks and free Garden Rocks concerts, included with an EPCOT ticket. May weekdays beat spring-break weeks.Universal Mardi GrasA bead-throwing parade and headline concerts at Universal Studios Florida, included with a normal park ticket. 2027 dates are still to come; here is how the 2026 event worked.SeaWorld Seven Seas Food FestivalWeekend food booths and free concerts at SeaWorld Orlando from late January to mid-May, included with park admission. The sampler lanyard is the way to do it. 2027 dates are still to come.

Kissimmee and US-192The Disney side's budget and vacation-home belt. Quick to Magic Kingdom, slow to Universal, and you will drive everywhere. Old Town's weekend car cruise is the evening.Downtown Orlando and Thornton ParkStay here for the city, not the parks. Lake Eola, Thornton Park and Mills 50 give you walkable evenings; every park day starts with I-4.Winter ParkOrlando's prettiest small town, with a walkable main street, a Tiffany museum and lake boat tours. The right base for a trip that is not about the parks.

Universal's Loews Portofino Bay HotelThe Express Pass hotel. Room keys double as unlimited Express at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, which can pay for the rate gap. It does nothing at Epic Universe.Universal Helios Grand HotelThe hotel inside Epic Universe's orbit, with its own entrance to the park. Lovely, but no Express, and Stella Nova walks you to the same park for less.Disney's Animal Kingdom LodgeThe Deluxe hotel with giraffes outside the window, if you pay for a savanna view. Every park trip is a bus, and Jambo House rooms are being refurbished into January 2027.Universal's Cabana Bay Beach ResortUniversal's retro value resort: walking paths to the parks, early admission, family suites and $26 parking. No Express Pass, which is the only reason to pay more.Disney's Pop Century ResortThe cheapest way into Disney's early entry, free parking and 7-day Lightning Lane window, with a gondola to two parks. Rooms sleep four; the value is real.Disney's Art of Animation ResortDisney's value resort with family suites for six, on the Skyliner next to Pop Century. The suite is the only reason to pay nearly double Pop's rate.Universal Stella Nova ResortUniversal's value-priced hotel next to Epic Universe: walk to the park, early admission, $30 parking. The best base for Epic Universe days; a bus ride from everything else.Hyatt Regency OrlandoA big, well-equipped hotel joined to the convention center on south I-Drive. For vacationers the fees and convention pricing make it hard to justify.Gaylord Palms ResortThe Kissimmee resort built around an indoor atrium, with a water park and the ICE! Christmas show. Fun as a destination; expensive as a place to sleep between park days.The Alfond InnRollins College's art-filled boutique hotel near Park Avenue. The right base for a Winter Park trip; the wrong one for theme park days 30 to 45 minutes away.Rosen Inn at Pointe OrlandoA plain, cheap I-Drive hotel that is honest about its costs: no resort fee, $10 parking, and a free scheduled shuttle to Universal. What the low rate buys is a bed and a bus.

Black Bean DeliA Cuban counter with two Orlando locations and a menu where no plate of food costs more than $18. The Cuban sandwich here is the one to measure every other Orlando Cuban against.Soseki Modern OmakaseA ten-seat omakase counter on Fairbanks Avenue with a Michelin star it has held since 2022. Superb, prepaid and non-refundable, which is exactly why it is not for everyone.Jiko - The Cooking PlaceAfrican, Indian and Mediterranean cooking at Animal Kingdom Lodge, with a list of South African wines. The Disney signature restaurant where the food, not the view, is the reason to book.Hawkers Asian Street FarePan-Asian small plates on Mills Avenue, open for lunch and late. Roti canai, soup dumplings and C.K.T. noodles make a cheap, loud dinner, and the weekday happy hour halves the price of baos.Se7en BitesA Southern bakeshop and brunch counter in Orlando's Milk District, now in the Michelin guide. Come early for pie, expect a line, and know it is only open four days a week.California GrillThree courses for $99 on top of Disney's Contemporary Resort, with the Magic Kingdom fireworks outside the window. The food is good; the timing of your table is what you are buying.Christner's Prime Steak & LobsterA family-owned steakhouse on Lee Road since 1993, with private rooms, a piano and a jacket-preferred dress code. The steaks are what you expect; the mandarin orange cake is the reason people remember it.CapaA Spanish steakhouse on the Four Seasons rooftop with a Magic Kingdom fireworks view from the terrace. It lost its Michelin star in 2026; the tapas at the bar are still the smart way to use it.4 Rivers SmokehouseCentral Florida's home-grown barbecue chain, founded in Winter Park in 2009. Reliable brisket at counter-service prices, with a location near most places you might stay. Go if it is on your way.The BoathouseA waterfront steak and seafood house at Disney Springs with vintage amphicars that drive into the lake. The cars are the show; the menu is competent and priced for the location.Knife & SpoonJohn Tesar's dry-aged steak and seafood room at the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes. It held a Michelin star in 2022 and 2023; today it is an expensive hotel steakhouse whose menu will not tell you the price.Space 220EPCOT's space-station restaurant, reached by a simulated elevator to 220 miles up. The show is fun for ten minutes; the prix fixe is priced for the show. The lounge gets you the setting for less.Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast KitchenA steampunk chocolate factory on CityWalk that sells enormous milkshakes and a full restaurant menu. The shakes are the point; the sit-down meal is not why anyone comes.
Local food
Dole WhipPineapple soft-serve made from a dry mix, first sold at Magic Kingdom in 1984. The cheapest good thing in the park, and you can skip the park entirely by going to the Polynesian.Smoked turkey legA giant smoked leg from a tom turkey, salty and ham-like, eaten walking. It costs $14.99 at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT in 2026, and one feeds two.ButterbeerA non-alcoholic cream soda with butterscotch foam, sold in three Universal parks and at CityWalk. It costs about $9.49 now, roughly triple its 2010 price.Grouper sandwichFlorida's signature fish sandwich has a long record of being faked. Testing has found about one in six grouper samples mislabeled in South Florida. At Disney Springs a grilled one costs $33.Boiled peanutsPeanuts boiled in their shells until they turn soft as beans, sold warm and wet at roadside stands across the South. Around Disney, two resort pool bars sell a Cajun version for $5.99.
Bars
The EdisonA 1920s power-plant bar and restaurant at Disney Springs. Come for a cocktail at the bar or weekday happy hour; the late-night 21+ club many guides describe no longer matches its hours.Wally's Mills Ave LiquorsA package store with a bar attached, dating to 1954, with the famous vintage wallpaper. Cheap beer, heavy pours, no menu and no pretense, in the Mills 50 district.
