The Alfond Inn

The collection was assembled by Barbara and Theodore Alfond, noted collectors (he is a 1968 Rollins graduate), and is curated by the Rollins Museum of Art. The works are installed throughout the hotel. For a Winter Park art day, pair it with the Morse Museum's Tiffany collection on Park Avenue.

• Resort fee: $27 plus tax per room per night. It covers concierge, the fitness center, Wi-Fi, local and long-distance calls, the rooftop pool and bar, water refills and 10% off at the spa.
• Parking: valet from $37 a day plus tax, with in-and-out; day-use valet $17; free if you are visiting the spa or Hamilton's Kitchen. There is no self-parking; street parking is nearby.
• Age and deposit: minimum check-in age 21, and a $75-a-day security deposit is authorized at check-in.
• Dogs: up to two, $50 per dog per night before tax.
• Cancellation: 72 hours before arrival to avoid a one-night charge.

The all-in $478.86 already includes the resort fee and taxes; valet is on top. For scale, on the same night Disney's Pop Century ran $238 to $288 before tax with free parking, and Cabana Bay $194 before tax. You are paying for the town and the building, not for park access.

Room sizes from the hotel's own list: Classic King 323 square feet, Classic Queen (two queens) 358, Business Suite 435, Junior Suite 576, Signature Suite 809 with a balcony over Winter Park, Luxury Suite 998 and Grand Suite 1,222. The Classic rooms are small for the price; the suites are where the space is.

Check-in is 4 p.m. and check-out 11 a.m. Early check-in and late check-out, when available, cost extra.

The hotel is near Park Avenue and the Rollins campus, which is its real advantage: dinner at The Ravenous Pig or Soseki, the Saturday farmers' market and the $20 Scenic Boat Tour are all in town. Orlando International Airport is about 18 miles and 30 to 35 minutes away, per the hotel.

The theme parks are not close. From Park Avenue at 8 a.m. on a weekday, Google Maps puts the Magic Kingdom parking area 30 to 45 minutes away (26.8 miles via I-4) and Universal 18 to 35 minutes (14.8 miles), and you pay $35 to park at either, on top of the valet here.

Book it for a couples' weekend, an Orlando trip without theme parks, a Rollins visit, or the non-park nights of a longer trip. Skip it for a park week: the rate plus valet plus park parking adds up fast, and you add an hour or more of driving on every Disney day. See our Winter Park area guide.
