Magic Kingdom

The biggest change is behind walls in Frontierland and Liberty Square. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat closed permanently on July 7, 2025. The land is being rebuilt as two projects: Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-themed area, and a villains land behind it. At D23 in August 2026 Disney named the rides: Cars Ridge Run Rally, an off-road ride, and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along for Piston Peak; a Maleficent coaster and a Magic Mirror dark ride for the villains. Disney has not published opening years. Fan-site estimates run to 2029 and 2030, so do not plan around them.

What that means on the ground: Liberty Square and Frontierland feel narrower, the waterfront walk still exists for parade viewing, and Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder now back onto construction.

• Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened on May 3, 2026 after a retrack, with new trains and a lower height limit of 38 inches (it was 40).
• Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin reopened in April 2026 after a multi-month overhaul.
• Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress has been closed since July 6, 2026. Disney says it should reopen in late spring 2027 with new scenes.
• Walt Disney World Railroad closes from September 28, 2026 and is expected back in November 2026.
• Tiana's Bayou Adventure closes on November 2, 2026 and is expected back in December 2026. If your trip falls in that window, the park loses its only water ride.

The official early-entry list decides this. If you stay at a Disney Resort hotel or one of the select hotels (the Swan, the Dolphin, the Four Seasons and about a dozen other nearby hotels), you get in 30 minutes before opening. During that half hour Disney plans to run Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear and most of Fantasyland. It does not list TRON, Big Thunder, Tiana's, Jungle Cruise, Pirates or Haunted Mansion.

With early entry:

1. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It is Single Pass only, so the standby line only grows from here.
2. Peter Pan's Flight, which is slow-loading and never short after 10 a.m.
3. Walk to Tomorrowland for Space Mountain before general opening fills it.
4. At official opening, go to Frontierland: Big Thunder and Tiana's start from zero then.

Without early entry: do not follow the crowd into Fantasyland, where resort guests have a 30-minute head start. Go left to Frontierland for Big Thunder Mountain, then Tiana's Bayou Adventure, then cut through Adventureland for Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise before 11 a.m. Leave Fantasyland dark rides for the parade window, when lines dip.

TRON Lightcycle / Run is the awkward one. It is not in early entry and it is not in Multi Pass. Either buy the Single Pass or ride standby in the last hour before close, when the posted wait usually drops.

Disney sells three products in 2026. Multi Pass lets you book three return times in one park, then add one more each time you use one. Single Pass covers one headline ride each, two per day maximum. Premier Pass gives one entry to every Lightning Lane in the park with no return times. Disney Resort hotel guests buy 7 days before check-in; everyone else buys 3 days before the park day, from 7 a.m. Eastern. Our call: buy Multi Pass here if you buy it anywhere. Magic Kingdom has more rides in its Lightning Lane list than any other Disney park, so the refills after your first three keep coming. Book Peter Pan or Space Mountain as your one top-group pick and fill the rest with Haunted Mansion, Pirates and the Little Mermaid. Skip the Seven Dwarfs Single Pass if you have early entry. Buy the TRON Single Pass if you will not stay late. Skip Premier Pass unless this is your only Magic Kingdom day and the price is at the $299 end. From August to December, Magic Kingdom sells separate evening tickets for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. On those nights the park closes to day guests at 6 p.m. and the regular fireworks, Happily Ever After, do not run.

Remaining 2026 party nights, as reported by Disney Food Blog and matched against the official hours we saw:

• Halloween: September 22, 24, 25, 27, 29; October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31.
• Christmas: November 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27, 29; December 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22.

On a non-party night, Happily Ever After was moved to 9:30 p.m. from August 31 through early October and to 9 p.m. from October 5. Disney changes showtimes, so check the app the day before. The best free view outside the park is the beach at the Polynesian; the best paid one is dinner at California Grill.

• Do not stop on Main Street at opening. Photos and shops are there all day. The first 60 minutes are the cheapest ride time you will get.
• Skip Tomorrowland Speedway on a short visit. It is slow-loading, the queue is exposed, and the cars run on a guide rail.
• Do not spend a Multi Pass slot on rides that rarely queue, such as Mickey's PhilharMagic or the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. Use the slots on Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion and Pirates.
• Do not plan on the train this autumn. The railroad is closed from September 28 to November 2026.
• Do not assume Tom Sawyer Island is a rest stop. It no longer exists. For shade and a sit-down, use the Hall of Presidents or the Country Bear Musical Jamboree.
• Do not arrive at the TTC at opening time. The Express Monorail starts 30 minutes before opening, and the lot, security and the ride over add up. Arrive at the parking toll 60 to 75 minutes early.

Food is not the reason to come, but the Dole Whip at Aloha Isle in Adventureland is worth the short line, and it makes a good excuse for a 2 p.m. break.

A full day. With early entry, a Multi Pass and a non-party night, adults can ride every headliner and see the fireworks in one visit of about 14 hours. That is a long day in Florida heat, so plan a hotel break from about 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. if you are staying on the monorail loop.

Families with children under 10 should budget two days, or one day plus a party night. Fantasyland alone can absorb a morning, and the afternoon Festival of Fantasy parade and the nighttime Disney Starlight parade each cost an hour of waiting for a good curb.
