Is staying on Disney property worth it?

Parking: $35 a day. That is Disney's standard theme park parking fee, tax included, and resort guests do not pay it. If you would drive to the parks anyway, this is cash in hand. If you would not have a car, it is worth nothing.

Early entry: roughly $15 to $30 per person per day. Disney's early-entry list for Magic Kingdom includes Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight and Space Mountain. Their 2026 average posted waits on Queue-Times are 47, 37 and 27 minutes. Riding two of them in the first half hour saves about as much waiting as a Seven Dwarfs Single Pass ($11 to $15 in September and early October 2026) plus part of a Multi Pass ($23 to $35). At Hollywood Studios the list includes Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash; at Animal Kingdom, Flight of Passage.

Lightning Lane window: hard to price, easy to feel. Booking 7 days before check-in for your whole stay means you pick return times before off-site guests can start, which matters most on busy dates.

Add it up for a family of four that would otherwise drive: $35 parking plus roughly $60 in early-entry value is about $95 a day. For a couple without a car, the parking half disappears, and the value is closer to $30 to $60 a day.

Disney's rates change by date and are quoted per night, before tax. Hotel taxes in Orange County add a 6% tourist development tax on top of sales tax. For the same night, check what a comparable room costs off-site, then apply the rule below.

The rule: if the Disney room costs less than about $95 a night more than your off-site option and you would be driving, stay on-site. If the gap is bigger, or you would not use the perks, stay off-site and put the difference toward tickets.

Disney's early-entry page lists select non-Disney hotels whose guests also get the 30-minute head start, and Disney's Lightning Lane page gives "select hotels" the same 7-day booking window. The early-entry list includes the Walt Disney World Dolphin, Swan and Swan Reserve, Four Seasons Orlando, Hilton Lake Buena Vista, Hilton Buena Vista Palace, Drury Plaza Hotel Lake Buena Vista, Holiday Inn Orlando, Signia by Hilton Bonnet Creek, Waldorf Astoria Orlando, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista, Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista and Shades of Green.

The difference is parking. The Dolphin and Swan charge their own guests $40 a day to self-park, and theme park parking is not included for these hotels. If you have a car, add $35 a day for theme park parking plus the hotel's own parking charge (up to $40 at the Swan and Dolphin). If the room is still cheaper than Pop Century after that, it wins on the numbers.

• Disney-only trips without a car. Buses, the Skyliner and the monorail cover everything; see getting around Orlando.
• Families who take a midday break. Getting back to the room and returning costs nothing extra in parking.
• Anyone planning heavy Lightning Lane use on busy dates, where the 7-day window matters.

• Mixed Disney and Universal trips. Disney perks do nothing at Universal, and Universal hotels have their own early entry. See where to stay.
• Visitors with a car and day trips planned. A cheaper room near Disney Springs or on International Drive plus $35 parking often wins.
• Late risers. If you will not be at the gate 30 minutes early, the biggest perk is wasted.
