Disney's Animal Kingdom

• DinoLand U.S.A. is closed for good. DINOSAUR, TriceraTop Spin, the Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus and the land's shops ended on February 1, 2026. The walkway is blocked and park maps now say Future Home of Tropical Americas.
• Finding Nemo: The Big Blue... and Beyond! still runs. It is on the current Multi Pass list, and blogs covering the closure report guests being routed to it.
• Tropical Americas is the replacement: an 11-acre land with an Encanto ride with no height limit, a 22-figure animal carousel and Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. Disney's official page now says only that it is coming. Inside the Magic reported that Disney removed the 2027 date from its site around September 10, 2026. Do not plan a trip around it.
• Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opened on November 7, 2025 in the Tree of Life theater, replacing It's Tough to Be a Bug!.
• Bluey's Wild World is now at Conservation Station, reached on the Wildlife Express train.
• Expedition Everest's Yeti will be repaired, Disney said at D23 in August 2026, with no timeline. Expect a closure for it at some point.

Everything here hinges on 7:30 a.m. Disney plans to run four rides in early entry: Avatar Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, Expedition Everest and Zootopia: Better Zoogether!. Kilimanjaro Safaris is not on the list.

With early entry:

1. Avatar Flight of Passage. It is the Single Pass ride and the longest standby line in the park. Height 44 inches.
2. Na'vi River Journey, next door. It is slow-loading and never short later.
3. At 8 a.m., walk to Africa for Kilimanjaro Safaris while its line is still forming.
4. Expedition Everest in Asia, also 44 inches.

Without early entry: Pandora will be full when you arrive. Go to Kilimanjaro Safaris first, then Everest, and either buy the Flight of Passage Single Pass or book it through Premier Pass. Leave Na'vi River Journey for a Multi Pass slot.

The safari covers 110 acres with more than 30 species, and the animals are easiest to see before the heat sends them into the shade. That alone is a reason to be here early.

Animal Kingdom has no top group in Multi Pass, so you can book Safaris, Na'vi and Everest together. At $15 to $16 a person that is the best value line-skip at Disney World in September 2026.

Our call: with early entry, skip both. You will ride the Pandora pair before 8:30 a.m. and the rest by noon. Without early entry, buy the Flight of Passage Single Pass and a Multi Pass for Na'vi and the safari: about $31 a person, much less than the $149 to $184 you paid to get in on busier days. With the ride list short, the shows and trails are the rest of the day. Festival of the Lion King in Africa is the strongest stage show Disney runs in Florida and works for every age. Feathered Friends in Flight! is a bird show in Asia. Finding Nemo: The Big Blue... and Beyond! is a sit-down musical and a good 2 p.m. break from the heat. None of them needs a Multi Pass slot if you arrive 15 to 20 minutes early.

The walking trails, Maharajah Jungle Trek in Asia and the Discovery Island trails around the Tree of Life, have no line at all and are where you see tigers and birds up close. At night, Tree of Life Awakenings projections run on the tree after dark. Given the 6 or 7 p.m. close, that only matters in winter when the sun sets early.

Both big rides here set a higher bar than most families expect. Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest each need 44 inches. Compare that with 38 inches for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom, or Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios. A child who rides all three of those can still be too short for both big rides here.

For under-44s the park still works, just differently. Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na'vi River Journey and Zootopia: Better Zoogether! have no height limit, and the shows and trails carry the rest. Use Rider Switch on Flight of Passage so each adult rides without queuing twice, and put the safari first while it is cool. If none of your children reach 44 inches yet, this is the park to cut to a half day without regret. The Orlando with kids page has the height list for every park.

• Skip Kali River Rapids unless you want to be soaked. Not damp: soaked, including shoes. Do it on a hot afternoon or not at all.
• Skip the Wildlife Express to Conservation Station unless you have Bluey fans. It is a train ride each way for a small area.
• Do not arrive at 10 a.m. The park's advantage is the morning. By late morning Pandora and the safari are at their worst and the heat is building.
• Do not look for DinoLand. The signs are gone and the path is blocked.

Five to seven hours. An early-entry family can ride all four headliners, see Festival of the Lion King and walk one trail by 1 p.m., eat, and be back at the hotel by 3 p.m. That is the right day for this park, not a failure.

Because it closes early, Animal Kingdom is the natural first half of a Park Hopper day: leave at 2 p.m. for the evening at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios. On a 1-day ticket, though, compare the hopper price against simply taking the afternoon off; our Park Hopper verdict runs those numbers. If you are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, you are minutes from the gate, and dinner at Jiko is a better end to the day than anything inside the park.
