How many days in Orlando
Covers hotels, areas and trip planning: rates for real dates, resort and parking fees, and transport.
UpdatedOrlando has seven major theme parks: four at Walt Disney World (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom) and three at Universal (Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe). Add SeaWorld, the water parks, LEGOLAND and Kennedy Space Center and nobody sees it all in one trip.
The working rule: one theme park per day, because each of the big seven fills a day on its own, and one rest day for every three park days, because Florida heat and long walking days add up. Then check the ticket prices, which fall sharply per day as tickets get longer. Often the extra park day costs less than the extra hotel night it needs.

"Minimum" means every park you choose gets one full day with no slack. "Comfortable" leaves room for a rest day, a rained-out afternoon or a second go at the park you liked most.
Go shorter than our comfortable number if you are traveling with toddlers who nap, if it is July or August, or if you are adding Lightning Lane or Express, which squeeze more rides into each day. Go longer if this is a once-a-decade trip and every park is on the list: the fifth and sixth ticket days are the cheapest days you will buy, and a spare day protects you from a hurricane-season washout or a sick child.
The ticket math: extra days are cheap
Both resorts price multi-day tickets so the per-day cost drops as you add days. On September 22, 2026 Disney's lowest advertised per-day prices were $130 for 2 days, $127 for 3, $124 for 4, $103 for 5, $90 for 6 and $82 for 7. The big step is between 4 and 5 days.
Real prices show the same thing. For a start date of Monday, October 12, 2026, a 3-day Disney ticket was $533.54 and a 5-day ticket was $763.95, both before tax. The two extra days cost $230.41, or about $115 each, against $179 to $199 for a single 1-day ticket that week. For December 28, 2026 the gap was $239.37.
Universal's starting prices for its 3-park park-to-park ticket fall from $147.33 a day for 3 days to $114.25 for 4, $94.40 for 5 and $71.72 for 7. Full prices are on our Disney tickets page and its Universal counterpart.
Build in rest days, and use the ticket window
Multi-day tickets come with a use-by window, and that window is what lets you rest without wasting days. Disney's 3-day ticket starting October 12, 2026 could be used on any 3 days from October 12 to 16; its 5-day ticket starting December 28, 2026 ran to January 4, 2027, so 5 park days in 8 calendar days. Universal's 3-day park-to-park ticket is valid on any 3 days within 5 consecutive days.
A rest day does not have to be idle. Good uses of a non-park day:
- Pool and a late lunch at Disney Springs, which has free parking.
- A spring swim at Wekiwa Springs or a morning in Winter Park.
- A day trip to Kennedy Space Center on the Space Coast, east of Orlando.
From June to September, when average highs run 90.8F to 92.0F, plan the rest day after the second park day, not the fourth.
Which parks deserve a full day
All seven do on a first visit, but they are not equal. Magic Kingdom and Epic Universe are the fullest days. EPCOT's World Showcase loop alone takes an afternoon. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom can be done in a long half day by some visitors, which is where a Park Hopper ticket starts to make sense (see Is Park Hopper worth it?).
At Universal, Studios and Islands share the Hogwarts Express, so a 1-day park-to-park ticket can cover both at a sprint. Epic Universe is on a separate site and is never included in a 1-day park-to-park ticket, so it always needs its own day.
If you are adding SeaWorld, it is a full day; if the trip is 7 days or more, one water park day makes a good rest day in summer. Note that Universal's Volcano Bay is closed from October 26, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
Sample splits that work
- 3 days: one resort only. Disney: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios. Universal: Studios, Islands, Epic.
- 5 days: 3 Disney days (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, one of the other two) and 2 Universal days using the 2-day "3 Park Admission" ticket, which gives one day at Epic and one park-to-park day.
- 7 days: 3 Disney parks, 2 Universal days, a rest day and a Kennedy Space Center day, as in our 7-day plan.
- 10 days: 4 Disney, 3 Universal, 1 SeaWorld or Kennedy Space Center, 2 rest days. The 10-day Disney ticket started from $64 a day.

Frequently asked questions
How many days do you need for Disney World?
Four park days to see each theme park once. Five or six days let you add a rest day or a water park, and Disney's per-day price drops most sharply between a 4-day and a 5-day ticket.
How many days do you need at Universal Orlando?
Three days to do Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe properly. Two days is possible with the 2-day "3 Park Admission" ticket: one day at Epic and one day hopping between the other two.
Is 5 days enough for Disney and Universal?
Only if you choose. Five days fits three Disney parks and two Universal days with no rest. Seven days is the comfortable length for both resorts.
Do Disney multi-day tickets have to be used on consecutive days?
No. They must be used within a window: the 3-day ticket we priced for October 12, 2026 was valid through October 16, and a 5-day ticket starting December 28, 2026 was valid through January 4, 2027.
Is it worth adding extra days to a Disney ticket?
Usually. For October 12, 2026, going from a 3-day to a 5-day ticket added $230.41 before tax, about $115 per extra day, when a single 1-day ticket that week cost $179 to $199.
