Orlando in 3 days

Go Disney if Magic Kingdom, Star Wars and EPCOT's food festivals are the draw. Go Universal if it is Harry Potter, coasters and Epic Universe. Both work in three days; mixing them does not.

Before you fix dates, check three things for October to December 2026:

• Party nights. Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6 p.m. on Halloween party nights (October 13, 15 and 16 in our sample week) and on Christmas party nights from November 8 to December 22. Put your Magic Kingdom day on a night without one.
• Closures. The Walt Disney World Railroad closes from September 28 and is expected back in November 2026. Tiana's Bayou Adventure closes November 2 and is expected back in December 2026. Typhoon Lagoon has been closed since September 9 with no reopening date.
• Festivals. Food & Wine runs to November 21 and the Festival of the Holidays from November 27 to December 30, both included with EPCOT admission.

Plan: arrive at the parking toll 60 to 75 minutes before opening if you drive; the Transportation and Ticket Center still needs a monorail or ferry ride. With early entry, ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight and Space Mountain in that half hour. Without it, go left to Frontierland for Big Thunder Mountain and Tiana's Bayou Adventure, then Pirates and Jungle Cruise before 11 a.m. Our Magic Kingdom guide has the full order.

Leave from about 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. if your hotel is close. Come back for Haunted Mansion and the Fantasyland dark rides, and ride TRON in the last hour, when the posted wait tends to drop. Happily Ever After starts at 9 p.m. from October 5, according to Disney Food Blog; check the app.

Eat: a Dole Whip at Aloha Isle ($5.99) for the afternoon. For dinner with the fireworks, California Grill on the Contemporary's top floor is a $99 prix fixe; book at 60 days.

Lightning Lane: yes, today. Multi Pass was reported at $35 a person for October 4, and this is the park where it earns it. Skip the Seven Dwarfs Single Pass if you have early entry.

Plan: this is the short day. With early entry (8:30 a.m. on the dates we saw) go straight to Rise of the Resistance, then Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash. Without it, go the other way: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets and Tower of Terror on Sunset Boulevard while the early crowd is in Galaxy's Edge. Spend the afternoon at the pool. In the evening, Disney Springs has free entry and free parking; The Boathouse does steaks from $60 and a $125 Amphicar ride, and Drawn to Life plays Wednesday to Saturday from $69.

Lightning Lane: this is the park where it matters most. Off-site guests should buy both the Rise Single Pass ($25 reported for October 5) and a Multi Pass ($29). With early entry, Multi Pass alone is enough. See Is Multi Pass worth it?

Plan: Pop Century guests take the Skyliner to the International Gateway and start with Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, then Frozen Ever After. From the main entrance, do Cosmic Rewind first, then Test Track. By noon the rides that queue are done. Our EPCOT guide explains both routes.

From mid-afternoon, walk the World Showcase loop. During Food & Wine, booth dishes ran $4.29 to $17.50 on the 2026 menus we checked; four or five plates each is dinner. Eat between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., before the evening lines. End with Luminous before the 9 p.m. close.

Eat: Space 220 costs $79 for three courses at dinner; its lounge plates ($17 to $28) are the better buy.

Lightning Lane: skip Multi Pass on a weekday. If you did not ride Cosmic Rewind first, its Single Pass was reported at $22 for October 5.

Tax adds $69.36 to the October tickets. Lightning Lane on the three days above (Multi Pass at Magic Kingdom, Multi Pass plus Rise at Hollywood Studios, Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT) comes to $222 for two at the prices reported for early October. Hotel is extra: Pop Century was $238 to $288 a night for November 17 and $275 to $318 for December 8, before tax. Staying there removes the $105 of parking and adds 30 minutes of early entry.

The Universal version is Epic Universe on day one, Islands of Adventure on day two with the Hogwarts Express to Diagon Alley, and Universal Studios Florida plus repeats on day three. It needs the 3-day, 3-park park-to-park ticket, which was $571.99 per adult starting October 12, 2026, or $1,143.98 for two before tax, plus $35 a day to park. Epic Universe is not covered by the free Express Unlimited at Universal's top hotels, and Volcano Bay closes from October 26, 2026 until spring.
