Orlando on a rainy day

Best: Universal Studios Florida. The rides that matter are indoors: Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers: The Ride-3D, MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack, The Simpsons Ride and Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. The park lost Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, its big outdoor coaster, in 2025, which hurts on a dry day and does not matter on a wet one. With a park-to-park ticket, the Hogwarts Express is a covered way to reach Hogsmeade.

Mixed: Islands of Adventure. Forbidden Journey and Spider-Man are indoor, but VelociCoaster, Hulk and Hagrid's are outdoor coasters that can close at short notice in storms. Keep an eye on Universal's app.

Worst: Epic Universe. WDW News Today reported in July 2026 that more than half of Epic's attractions have to close in rain because they are outdoors. The same report said Mine-Cart Madness had been cleared to run in rain, though not with lightning nearby. If your Epic day forecast is bad and your ticket allows it, swap days.

At Disney, the long indoor dark rides (Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom; Frozen Ever After and Remy at EPCOT) keep running. Outdoor coasters and Blizzard Beach, the only Disney water park open this autumn, are the first things weather shuts.

• Orlando Science Center. $29 adults, $22 ages 2 to 12 online ($3 more at the door); 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Wednesdays except Orange County school breaks. Four floors plus The Dome theater. Parking is $4 an hour. Best for families with children under about 12.
• Morse Museum. $8 adults, free under 12, for the Tiffany Chapel and its Tiffany collection. Tuesday to Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.; free on Friday evenings in season.
• Rollins Museum of Art. Free, on the Rollins College campus in Winter Park; closed Mondays. Pair it with the Morse for a dry Winter Park afternoon.

Skip Leu Gardens and Lake Eola in the rain: both are outdoor walks, and the Leu House museum was temporarily closed when we checked.

Drawn to Life is the best-value show in Orlando, and Disney Springs parking is free. It is dark every Monday and Tuesday. Medieval Times is fun with children but a poor dinner for adults. Pirates Dinner Adventure charges $8 to park and sells seat upgrades from $15 to $37 a head; watch the extras.

ICON Park has SEA LIFE Orlando and Madame Tussauds indoors, from about $29 to $34 each, and combos from $39. They are dry, but they are chain attractions found in many cities, and the one thing unique to ICON Park, The Orlando Eye, was closed for maintenance on September 22, 2026. Worth an hour if your hotel is on International Drive; not worth a drive.

If the forecast is bad all day and you have a car, this plan keeps you dry for about eight hours:

1. 10 a.m.: the Orlando Science Center in Loch Haven Park, for about three hours with children.
2. 1:30 p.m.: lunch at Black Bean Deli on North Orange Avenue in Winter Park, where the Cuban is $11.
3. 2:30 p.m.: the Morse Museum and the Tiffany Chapel before its 4 p.m. close, then the free Rollins Museum of Art.
4. Evening: Drawn to Life at Disney Springs at 5:30 or 8 p.m.

The days matter. The Science Center closes on Wednesdays, the Morse and the Rollins museum on Mondays, and Drawn to Life is dark on Mondays and Tuesdays, so the full plan works Thursday to Saturday.

• Cancels: the Aerophile at Disney Springs, which does not fly in storms or winds over 22 mph; sunrise balloon flights, which are rescheduled; water park slides when lightning is near.
• Carries on: Gatorland, which opens 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, rain or shine. Indoor museums, dinner shows and restaurants.
• Plan around: airboat rides and spring swims. Operators and parks set their own weather rules, so call ahead.

If you have a car and a whole wet day, the Morse's galleries plus lunch at Black Bean Deli in Winter Park make a better day than a soaked park. Our best time to visit guide shows which months to avoid if rain worries you.
